Postnatal Reformer Pilates in Aberdeen: Your Questions Answered

Thinking about coming to postnatal Pilates at Reformphysio & Pilates but feeling a bit unsure?

We're a physiotherapy clinic and reformer Pilates studio in Aberdeen, and we've pulled together the questions we hear most often to put your mind at ease.

We know that many mums can't make it to a class because they don't have childcare. That's exactly why we created our baby-friendly postnatal reformer Pilates classes.

Are babies allowed in our postnatal Pilates classes in Aberdeen?

Yes, absolutely, babies are welcome! We do need to balance this with health and safety, so babies need to be kept away from the reformers. This makes our baby-friendly classes ideal for pre-crawlers.

We can provide mats so your baby can have a stretch out on the floor. Lots of mums also bring a bouncy chair, which works really well. As space is limited, a baby carrier is even better if your baby is happy in one.

What happens if my baby cries in class?

Don't worry, it happens! We always want to support you to get the most out of your class. If you're happy for us to cuddle or help settle your baby, we absolutely will. And even if you find you're not getting as much done as you'd like, you're still doing more than you would have if you hadn't come at all.

How long can I keep coming to postnatal reformer Pilates?

For as long as your baby is happy in class. Every baby is different. If your little one is becoming unsettled or more mobile, it may be time to move you into one of our regular reformer Pilates classes.

Can I come to class without my baby?

Of course! If you're lucky enough to have some childcare, we'd love to see you in class without your baby. It's not an issue at all.

When can I start postnatal Pilates after birth?

You can join from six weeks after a vaginal delivery, or eight to ten weeks after a caesarean birth. Of course, this depends on how you're feeling and how your recovery is going. If you're not sure whether you're ready, get in touch and we'll talk it through with you.

Do I need to book a block of classes?

No. You don't need to commit to a block, as we offer class passes for our postnatal classes. They're the same passes we use for our pregnancy Pilates classes, so you can move straight from one into the other. You can also pay as you go to see if it's for you.

Why is reformer Pilates great after having a baby?

The resistance the reformer provides is really effective. It allows us to do some lovely push and pull work, which is fantastic for reconnecting with your core. Exercises like feet in straps are a great way to challenge your core while still being supported.

Do I need previous Reformer Pilates experience?

Not at all, all levels are welcome, from total beginners to instructors.
