Your Appointment
At Reform Physio & Pilates, our Specialist Pelvic Health Physiotherapists in Aberdeen City Centre and Cults are experienced in the assessment and treatment of men’s pelvic health conditions, including urinary issues, bowel dysfunction, pelvic pain, and recovery after prostate surgery.
It’s estimated that around 1 in 10 men will experience pelvic floor dysfunction or incontinence during their lifetime. These symptoms can occur at any age and are often underreported. Our specialist physiotherapists can offer safe, effective treatment and lasting relief.
We provide a confidential, supportive environment to help you regain strength, confidence, and control.
Common Men’s Pelvic Health Conditions We Treat
- Urinary incontinence (stress or urge incontinence)
- Bowel dysfunction, including constipation or faecal incontinence
- Pelvic pain, including chronic pelvic pain syndrome
- Pelvic floor dysfunction and weakness
- Recovery after prostate surgery (including prostatectomy)
- Erectile dysfunction or pain during intimacy related to pelvic floor tension
These conditions are common — but not normal — and effective treatment is available.
What to Expect During Your Appointment
Your initial appointment will begin with a detailed discussion about your symptoms, medical history, and goals. With your consent, your physiotherapist may carry out an internal (rectal) pelvic floor examination to assess muscle strength, coordination, and tone.
If you prefer not to have an internal examination, that’s absolutely fine, we can still provide an effective assessment and treatment plan based on your history, posture, breathing, and external muscle function.
You’ll receive a personalised treatment plan focused on relieving symptoms, improving muscle control, and supporting long-term recovery.
Our Approach to Treatment
We use evidence-based techniques to help improve pelvic health and function, which may include:
- Pelvic floor muscle retraining (strengthening or relaxation)
- Education on bladder and bowel habits, posture, and toileting
- Manual therapy and soft tissue techniques for pain relief
- Biofeedback or EMG to assist with muscle activation
- Exercise programmes to improve strength, coordination, and endurance
- Advice and support for recovery after prostate surgery or pelvic procedures
Our physiotherapists work closely with your wider medical team if required, ensuring integrated and holistic care.
