Pelvic Health for Women
It’s estimated that up to one in three women in the UK experience urinary incontinence, yet many believe it’s just a normal part of ageing or childbirth. The good news is that pelvic health physiotherapy offers safe, effective, evidence-based treatments to help you regain confidence, control, and comfort.
At Reform Physio & Pilates, our Specialist Pelvic Health Physiotherapists in Aberdeen City Centre and Cults are trained to assess and treat a wide range of pelvic floor and pelvic pain conditions in both women and men. Our goal is to help you understand your symptoms, restore function, and improve your quality of life.
CONDITIONS WE TREAT
- Urinary incontinence (stress, urge, or mixed)
- Pelvic organ prolapse
- Pelvic pain and discomfort
- Vulvodynia and vaginismus
- Pain during or after intercourse
- Lower bowel dysfunction such as constipation or faecal incontinence
- Postnatal and post-surgical pelvic recovery
What to Expect During Your Appointment
Your initial appointment will include a confidential discussion about your symptoms and goals. With your consent, your physiotherapist may perform an internal examination of your pelvic floor muscles to assess strength, tension, and coordination.
If you prefer not to have an internal examination, we can still provide a full assessment and effective treatment plan based on external observation, posture, and breathing.
How We Treat Pelvic Floor Dysfunction
Treatment is tailored to your individual needs.
THIS MAY INCLUDE
- Targeted pelvic floor exercises to strengthen or relax the muscles
- Breathing and posture training
- Education and advice on bladder and bowel habits, fluid intake, and toileting
- Manual therapy or soft tissue techniques (if appropriate)
- Biofeedback or EMG equipment to support pelvic floor retraining
- Recommendations for medical support, such as vaginal oestrogen via your GP
Physiotherapy for Lower Bowel Dysfunction
Our physiotherapists are experienced in assessing and managing bowel-related conditions such as constipation and faecal incontinence. Through a combination of education, exercise, biofeedback, and communication with your medical team, we aim to reduce symptoms and improve bowel control.
We provide pelvic health physiotherapy for both men and women experiencing bowel or pelvic floor concerns.
